Master Center’s Next Family Support Webinar: Self-Care for Families

If you are concerned that someone you love has a substance use issue, would like continued education on the disease of addiction and how it affects the family, or just need support as you navigate through the recovery process, Master Center for Addiction Medicine invites you to be a part of our lecture series presented by the area’s top doctors, clinicians and experts.

On March 31, 2022, we will present our next family support webinar, titled “Self-Care for Families: Learning How to Grab your Oxygen Mask First” by Leslie Stephen, LCSW. Leslie is the current Program Manager for Adult SUD, MH Outpatient, Jail and Court Services at Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services. For almost 30 years, she has enjoyed working in both direct service and leadership capacities in the private and public sectors. She recently served as the Mental Health Council Chair for the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards. Additionally, she provides individual and group therapy in a private practice setting. She enjoys providing training and has taught in an adjunct capacity at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Social Work. She is passionate about her work as an advocate for individuals and families challenged with mental illness and substance use, issues that have been present in her family. Her proudest role is being the mother of two smart, talented and compassionate young women.

Justin Jackson, LPC, LSATP, NCC, C-DBT

Joining Leslie will be Justin Jackson, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, National Certified Counselor, and is certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. On March 31, 2022, Justin will present “The Science of Addiction.” He will draw upon his experience providing therapeutic services to multiple treatment populations across a variety of settings throughout his career. He has worked with adolescents and families focusing on family dynamics and substance abuse, with college-aged students to address high-risk drinking, and with children in urban communities who suffer from disruptive disorders. Over the past 5 years, he has assisted adults suffering from addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders within the field of Medication-Assisted Treatment. Throughout his work, Justin implements evidenced-based practice and techniques, to include Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and DBT, to assist those in the healing process. He also applies mindfulness and meditation exercises in treatment. Justin’s experience in mental health and addiction treatment across populations has reinforced his belief that effective behavioral change comes from within.
